The Mystery of the Heart!

Why do I do the things I do? I often wonder why people do what they do. Some people live every day striving for success, wealth and the pleasures of this life; yet others strive only to escape their pain. The search for happiness and contentment in this life is a journey that we are all on whether we admit or not. Have you ever wondered what motivates the heart? What is the mystery on the inside of the heart that keeps us reaching? In fact, what is it really that we are all grasping for?

Some people live their lives every day reaching for more success regardless of the amount of success they have already attained. Others live every day reaching for more wealth or seeking the most pleasurable things in life. What about the addict that seeks freedom from the pain? All of us are reaching for something. What is the motivation of the heart that creates the yearning inside of us for something more?

The answer…eternity. Eternity is deep in the heart of every person. The writer of Ecclesiastes (presumably King Solomon) said that God has planted eternity in the human heart (Ecclesiastes 3:11). As the wealthiest and wisest person on earth, he had all the wealth a person could want; all the pleasures a man can buy; more power than ever imagined; and more success that can ever be achieved.

He reached for and obtained everything that this world could offer and yet could never satisfy the mystery of the heart. That mystery is eternity, which can only be satisfied by God Himself. Without a relationship with God, nothing will satisfy the motivation of the heart that drives us to do what we do every day. We were created for eternity by an eternal God; without Him, everything else in life is meaningless.  REACH FORWARD for Him today! He will cause you to enjoy the life you live on earth while looking forward to the eternal home He has prepared for you in His presence! All else is meaningless.
