Does life ever get confusing for you like it does for me? It is easy to get lost in all of the details of our lives as we try to navigate through the maze of life. At one turn we are trying to figure out how to get through to our teenager; at another turn we run into what seems to be a dead end job; at another turn there is a hurt that we find hard to forgive; at another turn I find out my spouse is an alien and does not understand anything about me; at another turn…; at another turn…; at another turn… At times the details can become overwhelming and we wonder where God is in all of these confusing details of our lives. We ask questions like, “Is God really there; Does He really care; Why is He not answering my prayers; Have I disappointed God; Is God angry at me; Am I being punished?”
In Fort Worth there is a maze at the stockyards that the kids like to go through. If they do it in a certain amount of time they win a prize. Overlooking the maze is a deck that the parents can stand on and watch the kids as they attempt to navigate the maze. We watch them as they make their turns trying to find their way. Some turns allow them to advance a little farther while others end abruptly causing frustration. As a father standing on the deck, I can see which turns are right and which ones are not and I find a desire in me to tell them which way to go. I think to myself, “if they would only look up here I could tell them which way to go.”
First Corinthians 13:12 says that we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror. In other words, the complete details of our lives are unclear to us and our knowledge is incomplete. We do not even completely know ourselves let alone the intricate details of our lives. But God does know everything about us and He does care about the details in our lives. It is difficult for us sometimes because we cannot see beyond the next turn. However, we have a loving God that is not only on the platform above us and can see every detail, but He is walking the maze with us guiding us at every turn, if we will only look up.
Psalm 37:23-24 (NLT) says “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.”
Psalm 37:5 (NLT) says “Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him and He will help you.”
Life does not have to be so confusing. Sometimes it feels like we are in a maze, but we have a God who cares and sees around the corners that are blind to us. We can trust Him and look up, as it were, so that He can show us the way. Be encouraged today that you are not in the maze alone. He is with you and He will guide you because He cares about what concerns you.
