Building Spiritual Muscles!

Have you ever tried running a marathon or lifting a lot of weight without being involved in an exercise program?  I can remember how hard it was trying to take the Army Physical Fitness Test without a good exercise program beforehand.  My body did not have the strength or endurance necessary to get good results.  Well, the Bible tells us to exercise ourselves toward godliness much like we would for bodily exercise (1 Timothy 4:7-8).  In other words, if we want to build a life of godly virtues such as faithfulness, kindness, gentleness, patience and love, then we need a good exercise program.   We can practice these virtues daily while feeding our spirit with the Word of God.  What are the principles of a good exercise program?  I think about consistency, repetition, discipline and enthusiasm.  These principles and others should be a part of a good spiritual exercise program that helps us apply the Word of God to our lives.  Just like a physical exercise program builds strong muscles that get results, a spiritual exercise program builds virtues that bring about good results in our marriages, finances, relationships, jobs, education and all other areas of life.  Let’s REACH FORWARD to a life of godliness and watch God bring about good results in our lives.  You can do it, I know you can!  Remember, it’s not by might or power, but by His Spirit!
